The Suzuki Method was founded by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki in Japan in 1942 and brought to the U.S. in 1964. Since then, it has become the most widely used method for teaching children of all ages to play stringed instruments. It is often referred to as the "mother tongue" method because of the important emphasis on listening and imitating high quality recordings of the music being learned. Children learn to play by ear at first, and then later learn to read music. For this reason, the Suzuki Method is excellent for teaching very young children, starting at ages 2 and 3.
The Suzuki Method has gained worldwide respect and is known for creating musicians with beautiful tone and hearts. The Suzuki Method is also referred to as Talent Education as the Suzuki Method teaches that all children have talent, and that talent is not inborn, but developed with time through the "parent, teacher, student triangle".
